Glasstec 08: "glassart" - Beautifully Fragile, Glastec 2008 features Works of Art made of Glass. Glass art in all its varied facets will be on show for visitors to admire at the international glasstec exhibition in Düsseldorf from 21 to 25 October 2008. For the first time art works in glass will now be grouped coherently and compactly in their own exhibition area in Hall 9 on over 1,000 square metres of exhibition space. This move is a reaction by Messe Düsseldorf to the growing interest in glasstec from the international art scene. Over 60 renowned artists will be presenting their glass objects this year - including many freelance artists as well as internationally renowned galleries and the glass artists association Glaskünstlervereinigung NRW. This is already the fifth time the Glaskünstlervereinigung NRW has participated at Glasstec. In its very own "art gallery" 24 nationally and internationally renowned artists will be presenting filigree sculptures, large-format installations, creative objects in glass or simply an interplay of different colour components on differently finished glass surfaces. During the fair the artists will also produce artists' editions in the form of small-format works. The special highlight here is that visitors will be able to purchase these exhibits at the fair at a special price as limited editions. Another large group of just under 30 artists will be presented at "glassart" by Dutch gallery Mariska Dirkx. This renowned gallery is represented throughout the world and has particularly specialised in glass art. This year the artists come from France, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, the USA, England as well as the Netherlands. The artists experiment with the medium of glass and work with it using both traditional and more unusual techniques. The wide spectrum of glass art at Glasstec is not only a magnet for the glass sector. "glassart" also particularly attracts representatives from international museums as well as private collectors now showing ever increasing interest in glass as an artistic medium.
