| Batimat 2007: International Architects Conference |

 November, 5-10, France: Batimat 2007 will host an International Architects Conference organised with the International Union of Architects. How will we build in the future? How could things develop with the emergence of new technical solutions and new sustainable development requirements and, in particular, energy management, environmental protection and safety? How will new-build and renovation activities in the residential and tertiary sectors evolve?
To answer these questions, the International Union of Architects and BATIMAT have decided to organise a joint conference during the next show. Focusing primarily on the sectors covered by the exhibition, this highly international event will bring together architects and manufacturers to exchange information about their respective areas of innovation.
The conference programme, outlined below, covers the majority of current construction issues with a strong focus on building design. Architects will also, of course, be able to find answers to their questions on these subjects on the manufacturers' stands.
1. Positive energy buildings
An ambitious project that aims to develop the concept of buildings that produce as well as consume energy in the new-build sector and the use of groundbreaking new technologies in the renovation sector.
2. Multifunctional facades
Transforming the building envelope into a "third skin" inspired by both the human body and clothing design. New facing techniques, natural lighting, light-filtering textiles, solar energy, automated blinds and bioclimatics are just some of the ways to increase comfort and convenience.
3. The impact of new equipment on overall building design
Looking at Intelligent Building not as the integration of new equipment but as an all-encompassing project from architectural concept through to the design and implementation of its various components.
4. Housing for all
Enabling elderly people to remain at home: improving autonomy, developing a reassuring environment that avoids a sense of isolation. Accident prevention in the home: making homes safer, especially for children. Adaptability and accessibility for people with limited mobility.
5. Visual comfort combining natural and artificial light
Artificial lighting: intelligent systems, energy saving, new technologies. Natural lighting: new high-performance systems.
6. Interior fittings: new solutions for coverings and lighting
New floor and wall coverings, new ceiling materials, new lighting and lighting management technologies. Combining aesthetics, performance, economy and sustainable development.
7. Construction techniques: spaces with increasing flexibility and evolutivity
New materials and new technologies underpinning the new architectural solutions (concrete, steel, wood, composite materials).
