Title:: Turkey requests Kuwait's aid to host Expo 2015

Turkish envoys are touring the world over to promote the Turkish city of Izmir, in its bid to host the international fair EXPO 2015, said a Turkish diplomat. Ambassador Muzaffer Eroktem, the special envoy of the Turkish Prime Minister, told reporters Sunday night, at the Turkish Embassy in Kuwait, that he delivered a letter from the Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan to His Highness the Prime Minister, Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah during his short visit to Kuwait. In the letter, the Turkish prime minister requested Kuwait's support during the general assembly meeting of the Bureau of International Exhibitions (BIE) in Paris next March, as Kuwait is a member of the BIE.

"We started to gather support from the United Nations and other international organizations and we are confident that we will get Kuwait's support," Eroktem told reporters. "After Kuwait, I will visit Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Muscat in Oman," he added.

Both, Izmir in Turkey and Milan in Italy are the only two cities nominated to host the EXPO 2015. If Izmir wins the right to host the exposition, it would be the first time that such an event takes place in an Islamic country. Health is the theme for Izmir's exhibition in 2015, under the title: "Health for All - New Routes to a Better World".

Turkey will need at least 54 votes to secure its city's nomination. EXPO or World Fair is held every five years. The first Expo was held in The Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London, in 1851 under the title "Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations". EXPO 2010 will take place in Shanghai, China.
