In the countries of the Black Sea Region (BSR) and South Eastern Europe (SEE), renewables utilization and energy efficiency can be a viable opportunity not only for the decrease of energy dependency but also for fostering the economic development, investments in innovations and technologies, creation of local employment and decrease of energy bills for population and industries, improved environmental quality. The aim of the conference is to bring together various stakeholders interested in the field of renewable energy sources for electricity (Distributed Generation) and heat/cold generation, for transport and energy efficiency. The Conference will draw upon the achievements of the old EU countries and the new EU member states as a firsthand example for the Eastern European and the Black Sea Region countries. Representatives of the European Commission will present the EU policies requirements and targets; experts from the old EU member states will share their experiences, success factors and needs for establishing a sustainable energy path. The participation of experts from the EU member states and from Central and Eastern Europe is very important as these countries share common past and in many cases face similar problems. The results of the FP6 funded project on the issues of distributed energy resources, called SOLID-DER (A Coordinated Action Towards the Promotion and Consolidation of All RTD Activities for Large-scale Integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) in the Electricity Market), will be presented. The project objectives include evaluation and assessment of the critical developments, innovations and findings in EU Research and Development on a large-scale integration of DER. It concerns particularly developments in the field of legislation, regulation, support policy and market access, and also solutions for challenges posed by intermittency or/and large scale supply of wind power and other DER options to transmission and distribution grids (stability and safety) by technical breakthroughs in DER supply and enabling technologies and market systems. The project is under development by 18 partners from EU member states and Bulgaria.
